1. Q. What is the best way to set an anchor in a river?

1. A. -avoid areas known to have debris on the bottom.

-carefully and slowly release your anchor over the bow (front), never over the stern (back).

-release line until the anchor reaches the bottom and you feel the boat slow down as the anchor is dragging. If it doesn’t stop continue to feed out the line until it stops.

-it may not always be possible to anchor your boat in certain areas of the river or under certain conditions. In these cases try another area. Sometimes closer to the shore will anchorage better.

-to release the anchor pull in the rode until it leads vertically to the anchor then tug it to release it.
